Lower and Upper Winds in the 20th century I.

Between 1918 and 1989, the societies of the Central European multi-ethnic nation-states that were established in the 20th century were radically transformed - as a result of alternating political systems and modernization challenges. All of this had an impact not only on a national level, but also on the economic, social, cultural life, ethnic and linguistic relations of local communities. Small regions with a Hungarian majority in southern Slovakia were particularly sensitively affected by these processes. Ownership changed, and some of those who lost their property were forced to leave their homeland. New ethnic groups appeared and the linguistic character of the villages changed with them. The consequences of land and public administration reforms, assimilation and migration pressures that intensified from time to time, forced settlements, delayed and partial industrialization further deepened these changes. Our volume analyzes this continuous transformation in relation to the two settlements in Mátyusföld, Alsószeli and Felsőszeli, located at the lower reaches of the Dudvág.
