On November 24, 1915, the Czech linguist Professor Hrozný introduced the world to the decipherment of the Hittite language - and it was on this day that Josef Cerný was born. Following his life, we also learn about the history of our region in the 20th century: prison, torture, betrayal, violence, insult, forgiveness. It does not depict history one-sidedly, but nuancedly, from several points of view, sometimes surreally, yet in a livable way. we stand there at their daughter’s wedding, and finally that certain love letter written in cuneiform finds its reader. Tomáš Zmeškal (1966), a Prague-born Congolese father and Czech mother, is a writer, translator and English teacher. His novel won the prestigious Czech Josef Škvorecký Prize (2009) and the European Union Prize for Literature (2011).
