Today, in 2021, maps serve us unnoticed in all areas of life. Today, a GPS map on the phone shows where we are, every minute of the day. Wherever we want to travel, we go to the Internet maps and in seconds we can see the entire route with several alternatives. Ambulances, firefighters, police (taxi drivers, delivery drivers, pizza couriers, shutter fitters...) all use maps to search for their ever-changing destinations. But it wasn't always like that! And this is not thanks to Google and foreign navigation companies' satellites, and not to the multis. During the "Heroic Age" - a process lasting many years - hundreds of Hungarian people prepared the map of all the settlements in Hungary. This book is about that. When specialists "put together" a map system that eventually became world-class, which is used by all "gadgets" to this day, helping the lives of millions every day, not by large state projects or multi-company billions, but by company advertisements and thousands of local government pennies. In this book, we recall the history of a business. Péter Göndöcs, who lives in Gyula, founded it during the regime change. The company initially published paper-based city maps, then started publishing county atlases. In the framework of the latter work, HISZI-MAP prepared a map of all settlements in Hungary. This book depicts the creation of the entire settlement map system of Hungary and Romania through exciting, twisty stories.
